March 09, 2003 ( Sunday, March 09, 2003 ) Weekly Wrap-up 1. What is your definition of "beauty"? Has this changed over time? Freakily enough, I was asked this question in Philosophy and this was my answer (summed up): Beauty, to me is almost everything except physicality. Beauty is confidence. For a person to stand up to something that has been troubling them, that is beautiful. Beauty is something that is pure, virginal, and untainted. Babies are beautiful because they have yet to experience the things that corrupt them. Society too often mistakes beauty with attractiveness and they're definately two seperate concepts. 2. Who (famous or not famous) do you think is beautiful? Why? Hmmm....in an honesty I think Rosie O'Donnell is beautiful... 3. Is it possible to be both beautiful and ugly? How? Well, you could be "physically" beautiful and have an ugly heart. 4. Why does society place so much emphasis on beauty? Will this ever change? Why or why not? I'm not too sure why society places so much emphasis on beauty. I think that gradually things will change, after all what society thought was beautiful 20 years ago is different from what it thinks now. 5. How does beauty vary from culture to culture? Is there a particular culture's definition of beauty that you admire? Why? Well, I think it's pretty obvious how beauty can vary from culture to culture. If I had to pick one culture I'd probably say one of the more traditional asian cultures. I don't really know why, they're idea of beauty just seems to make sense. |
