February 28, 2005 ( Monday, February 28, 2005 ) It's interesting how life can play little games sometimes. Take, for instance, my job situation. Since about Christmas I had only been working a few hours a week, barely being able to pay rent and groceries and other stuff. Not to mention being bored out of my skull only working a few hours a week. Well, a week ago I was hired for this new job, and then wal-mart suddenly decides that they like me so they're going to give me more shifts. Long story short, today is #10 of 15 working days in a row. Woot. I shouldn't complain, as it's going to help out immensely, especially as Scott's contract at CF is over soon. But it sucks being apart from him so much. Yesterday I worked 12 hours in a row..I only got to see him for just a couple hours. It would be so nice to have matching work schedules again. In the summer, it was almost ideal. We'd both get up, go to work, and come home roughly at the same time. Now, he gets up and goes to work, and I wait for him to come home for lunch and then I hang around until I go to work in the evening. So about the new job. It's so...completely different than anything I've ever done before. I can't go into too much detail due to confidentiality but I can talk a bit about it. Sure, I've worked with people with disabilites before, but not in this context. It's such a different environment. I was thinking last night about how the home actually IS a home. The first couple days I worked there, it was like a job, just a job environment, but that's not what it is. It's their home. It's a very friendly, relaxed place to be. Everyone so far has been very welcoming and patient with me as I learn the ropes. The operation of this home is amazing to be a part of. To know that people are relying on you to do more than find them a blender or mix their paint is a great feeling. To help someone live a better, more comfortable life, in turn makes my life better. It's a good job that I hope I'll be able to do more of. Not too much else has been happening lately other than working. The weather outside is so great. It's like late spring out there!
