August 16, 2005 ( Tuesday, August 16, 2005 )  <--see-saw jump in the community forest-- Can't believe that there is only two weeks left of Summer Rec. And two weeks until my bike trip...yikes... Last friday we went to Silverwood which was fun. It was really busy though so we didn't get to go on all the rides we wanted to....oh well...and it rained for the last hour but that actually made the roller coasters more fun. On Saturday I did a trial run for my bike trip, my goal was Jaffray. I made it just a few kilometers short but that's my fault because I didn't start when I wanted to and it was really dark and cold and I didn't really feel like biking on abandoned roads in the dark. I made it about 55 kilometers in about 4 hours, which is about 13km/hour. The thing with the trans canada trail is that it winds through backroads and stuff which makes it longer than if you were to take the highway.  The trip is going to be harder than I imagined. When I went for the ride on Saturday, I loaded my bike up with everything that I'll need and it was freakin' heavy. Not for the first couple hours, but eventually it was like insane. Every little hill is just a monster to try and bike up. It's hard having like 40 pounds pushing down on you while trying to gain momentum. I made the executive desicion to add another day onto my trip. I originally thought I would make it to Fernie in one day, but I decided to stop near Jaffray. It should be a challenge, but it's a challenge that I'm ready to take. I found out last night that I was bumped down a spot on the casual list at the group home. I kind of expected it to happen because I haven't been able to take any shifts because of Summer Rec. It kinda sucks though, because I don't know what will happen in the fall. I hope I get a lot of shifts.... My mom left for Toronto on Friday to visit my cousin Betty who has cancer. I've only met this cousin a few times but to my mom she's like a sister and I hope that everything goes well and that they get rid of the cancer. |
