this last week has been pretty busy.

The following is a post which I intended to make last monday but didn't have time.

I went for a bike ride tonight. A long 2 1/2 hour bike ride. It felt good to get out again. I've gone a couple times a week and I just can't get enough. The community forest is like a haven. Trails upon trails of endless riding. There seems to be a trail to fit every mood of me. If I'm lazy, I'll just take the fenceline trail. Up for a challenge, I'll take the Windy Bluff Lookout (which is what I did tonight), adventerous, well there's always Rollercoaster Trail.

Tonight I started on one side of the forest and took my time riding through. Over hills, down into the open fields, along a few lakes. There were hardly any people out tonight. I like it that way. I pushed myself up to the Windy Bluff lookout and perched a top a rocky ledge. The sun causing a haze above the city. I point out "landmarks". Wal-Mart, the mall, the arena, my house! A helicopter appears and it almost seems like if it got close enough I could jump right in. It hovers near the hospital and then flies away. It strikes me that I'm up here, alone, watching a city of people who have no idea that someone is watching. The sun is hot and I'm getting tired so I take an unfamiliar path home. It's steep and rocky and my back brakes are offically gone. Fun. I am whizzing past trees, a large boulder, praying that nothing gets in my way. Once I am on familiar ground I hear the sound of ignorance. A large ATV is crushing and crashing it's way down the path. I stop to tell them that they can't ride that in this forest but they wave and keep going. (end of bike story)

On Tuesday I went to the annual general meeting for the Cranbrook Community Forest Society. I just went to sign up as a member and see what they were going to talk about. I went into the meeting as a fan and user of the forest, when I left I was on the board of directors. Interesting...

The bike trip planning is going along. Most of the actual planning is almost done we just need to figure out the minors. Donations are nearing $300 which is halfway!

I can't wait to have a weekend off.....
