July 31, 2006 ( Monday, July 31, 2006 ) worst. weekend. ever. So, this weekend between 11pm on Friday night and 11pm on Sunday night, I was scheduled to work three 8 hours shifts. 24 hours in two days, rough....by the end of the weekend I had worked 30. UGH! That's not even the worst part. Most weekends I work the night shift at the group home. I don't mind them, they're quiet and usually not much happens. Well, on Saturday night (Sunday morning) at 3:30 am, I was sitting on the couch watching tv. All of a sudden I start hearing this really shallow breathing. It seemed too loud to be coming from any of the bedrooms but I checked anyways. After I checked all the rooms and found everyone sleeping soundly, I walked back down the hallway. I stopped at the end when I noticed that one of the doors to the patio was open just slightly. To my horror, I watched as the door slowly opened all the way, and a person appeared in the doorway. He didn't see me as there was a considerable distance between the door and the hallway (the door led to the sunroom, which is just off the dining room, I was standing on the edge of the dining room.) I was frozen in fear for what seemed like hours. I bolted for the counter, grabbed the phone and ran to the sunroom yelling "GET THE HELL OUT!". The guy was frozen too and then took off out the door. I had dialed 9-1-1 as soon as I had the phone in my hands and they were on the phone when I yelled. I shut the door and locked it and ran to the other side of the room where there was another door. It was locked and I ripped open the blinds to see the guy STEALING MY BIKE! Just as the operator transfered me to the local police, a police car appeared in the street. The guy jumped off my bike, ditched it on a lawn across the street and took off down the street. I locked all the doors, ran across the street and grabbed my bike. A police car drove up to me as I crossed the street and asked if I was alright. I told her what happened and she told me that this guy had already broken windows in the neighborhood that night. I went back in and locked the doors. Shaking in fear and loaded with adrenaline, I called Scott and then my boss. The rest of the night I was just completley disoriented and on edge. I didn't sleep well last night, it took me a long time to fall asleep because all I kept thinking about was what happened and how I have to do nights again this weekend. I really don't know how I'm going to do them anymore..... on a lighter note, my cousin and I appeared in the Advertiser for our trip! ![]() also, thursday is my birthday...hoo-rah. |
