April 11, 2007 ( Wednesday, April 11, 2007 ) everytime I go to a different city like Calgary or Toronto, I always come home relieved that I don't live there. Calgary, which always used to seem like a decent place has turned very cold. It's corridors filled with people who are working every hour of the day to squeeze by. Families sit homeless on the corners of downtown streets even though both parents have full time jobs. Everyone seems so angry and demanding. I think the city is about to crack. Easter weekend was alright. I found out a day before our trip that one of my favourite clients from the day program had died which put me in a weird mood. I had planned to go see him in the hospital the next day. It's hard working with people so closely. You get attached, you bond and you become almost a family with them, especially at the group home. For a lot of the clients, we're all they have. Families have distanced themselves, let the responsibility fall on others. When they pass away it's like losing a part of a family. |
